Why LiveAgent costs more than the pricing page suggests

LiveAgent advertises plans from $15/agent/month. That number is real, but it's the floor, not the ceiling. The Small and Medium plans exclude social media integrations. If your customers reach you through WhatsApp, Facebook, or Instagram, you're looking at $39/month per channel on top of your agent fees.

This creates a deliberate upgrade path. A 5-agent team on Medium ($29/agent) with WhatsApp and Facebook pays $145 + $78 = $223/month. The Large plan at $49/agent for the same team is $245/month. LiveAgent knows the math pushes you toward Large. The add-on pricing is designed to make it happen.

Factor in feature caps (3 email accounts on Small, 2 chat buttons), annual billing lock-in, and a rule-based AI chatbot that tops out at 1,000 rules, and the "affordable help desk" starts looking less affordable and less modern than the pricing page implies.

Frequently asked questions

LiveAgent advertises plans starting at $15/agent/month (annual billing). That gets you ticketing, live chat, and a basic knowledge base. But if you need social channels like WhatsApp or Facebook on the Small or Medium plans, each channel costs an extra $39/month. A 5-agent team on Medium with two social channels ends up paying $223/month instead of the $145 you'd expect from the pricing page.
LiveAgent includes social media integrations (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, Viber) for free on the Large and Enterprise plans. On the Small and Medium plans, each social channel is a $39/month add-on. This creates an intentional upgrade path. Once you add two or three social channels on Medium, you're paying close to the Large plan price anyway, but without the SSO, custom roles, or audit logs that come with it.
Annual billing typically saves 20-30% compared to monthly. The Small plan drops from $19 to $15/agent/month, Medium from $35 to $29, Large from $59 to $49, and Enterprise from $85 to $69. The catch is flexibility. Multiple users have reported that LiveAgent holds credits for the full year and doesn't offer mid-cycle refunds if you need to remove agents.
Beyond social channel add-ons ($39/month per channel on lower plans), watch for artificial feature caps. The Small plan limits you to 3 email accounts and 2 chat buttons. Medium allows 10 and 5, respectively. If you run multiple brands or products, these limits force you to upgrade the entire team to a higher tier. There's no option to buy individual features a la carte.
LiveAgent offers a rule-based AI chatbot, not a generative AI. The number of rules you can create depends on your plan: 50 on Small, 150 on Medium, 500 on Large, and 1,000 on Enterprise. These rules follow if/then logic. The chatbot can't understand context, learn from conversations, or resolve novel questions on its own.
SupportWire includes all channels, AI, phone support, and SLA management on every plan. No per-channel add-ons, no artificial feature caps, no forced tier upgrades. The AI is generative, meaning it learns from your conversations and knowledge base to resolve tickets autonomously. No per-resolution fees either.
